Romans was written by Paul to the members of the church in Rome, the capital of the Roman Empire. Paul was born in Tarsus and was a Roman citizen. After his conversion on the road to Damascus, Paul spread the gospel throughout the Roman Empire. The church at Rome was probably founded by those who were converted on the Day of Pentecost and made their way back home to Rome. Paul longed to visit this church but was prevented many times. He wrote this epistle from Corinth toward the end of his third missionary journey. This epistle is rich in doctrine and practical instructions for all believers who study it.
